The Many Secrets of Bucky Barnes

Basically, I've screwed the 616 timeline over good and proper by apping from a canon point circa FDR's death. While my character is actually alive, active, and running around the Marvel Universe, having crossover appearances, etc. People tend to reference these things around Bucky, and of course, he's interested, it's his future.

What's tricky, is that most of the Marvel Universe still thinks he's dead. That's changing more and more, but I sort of feel I should, uh, reiterate that. He's very famous for being dead. Him being dead is why there aren't any sidekicks in Marvel, both in and out of universe. Runaways and Young Avengers both reference this. (The YA reference is kind of weird because the gov't actually covered up his death for morale reasons but whatever, nothing in that series makes sense continuity wise, blame Kang...)

So, okay, most people still think he's dead, but he's actually been calling himself Captain America since about a month after Civil War. Who knows that secret ID? In order!

- Tony Stark, Black Widow (Captain America #33)
- Red Skull, Lukin, Arnim Zola, Faustus, Crossbones (+ Sin) (Captain America 35-6)
- Clint Barton, Sam Wilson (Captain America 37)
- SECRET INVASION GOES HERE
- The New Avengers (Spider-man, Spider-woman, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Mockingbird, Jessica Jones) (NA 48)
- Maria Hill (IIM 8?)
- Chinese Mad Scientist and minions (Captain America 43)
- Namor the Sub-Mariner (Captain America 46)
- Sharon Carter (Captain America 49)
- Agents of Atlas (AoA v2 4)
- Eli Bradley (Captain America 600, thus I'm pretty sure the rest of the YA know too)
- Dead people no one will ever app (Young Allies 1)
- Nick Fury, Norman Osborn (Reborn 1, though Fury probably knew before)

It's impossible to tell at present where Reborn fits into 616 continuity, but I'm thinking it has to be after everything else being published right now, with the possible exception of Thor. Generally, though, even though his secret id is mostly a secret (until Norman found out) he will basically tell it to anyone who asks, in canon. So-- I don't mind people throwing this information around, basically. If I did I think I'd be...pretty screwed.

His other secret ID, though, is a huge secret and also the source of various angsts and guilt. He knows about it here in C&C through various in-game shenanigans, but the codename "Winter Soldier" is something v. few people know, and I'd like to keep track of them because, well, it's triggering info for my character. It's important to note that, even though there are quite a few people Bucky has met, the truth behind where he was from 1945-2008 or whatever is not something he really talks about. He never tried to use "Winter Soldier" as his new superhero name or anything, despite how he's referred to out of universe.

PEOPLE THAT KNOW:
- Various KGB mooks (Karpov, Lukin)
- Red Skull (Captain America 1, through this, Faustus, Zola, Crossbones, and the crew)
- Nick Fury (Captain America 5)
- Sharon Carter, Steve Rogers (Captain America 6)
- Sam Wilson (Captain America 12)
- Tony Stark (Captain America 13)
- Wolverine (Wolverine 37)
- Spitfire, Union Jack (Captain America 18?)
CIVIL WAR GOES HERE
- Black Widow (Captain America 27)
SECRET INVASION GOES HERE
- Chinese Mad Scientist and minions (Captain America 43)
- Clint Barton (Captain America 43, NA: The Reunion #1)
- Namor the Sub-mariner (Captain America 46, and not WS:WK)
- Dead people no one will ever app (Young Allies 1)

He's told Abby about this in C&C.

Thaaat's about it. I don't think Daken knows, but I haven't read all of his appearances so if he clearly does somewhere, lemme know. Let me also know if I've missed a/your character, because really what I'm trying to do is keep everything straight!

Hi people.

So guys, some people have complained about not knowing or having any real desire to know sixty-seven years worth of sidekick continuity. That's alright, I can dig. So basically, I thought I would share random scans of different scenes in this journal, so that we could all learn things. Together.

Stark! But that's German for NAZI! )

Avengers/Invaders is plotted by Alex Ross and Jim Krueger, with the scripting by Kruger, pencils by Steve Sadowski, and colors by inLight Studios.
